Puget Sound Educational Service District (PSESD) is seeking a diverse group of representatives to consider becoming members of the PSESD Board of Directors. PSESD is one of nine regional educational agencies serving school districts, state approved private and charter schools in Washington State. Educational Service Districts improve the quality, equity and efficiency of educational programs through partnerships with K-12 programs, early learning, higher education and private organizations. PSESD provides these programs and services to 35 school districts, 200 private schools and 8 charter schools in King and Pierce counties, including Bainbridge Island through the lens of our Ends or agency vision: Success for Each Child and Eliminate the Opportunity Gap by Leading with Racial Equity.
The Board of Directors is comprised of nine elected members from various areas in our region. Six of the nine positions are open for election this year. Elections will be held in August and new board members will be sworn in this coming January, 2018.
We are seeking community members, who would be willing to commit time to participate in monthly board meetings, approve financials and policies regarding the operations of the agency, provide meaningful linkage with educational leaders and community members, and ultimately ensure the PSESD achieves ends-related results.
Diverse personal and professional experiences are beneficial to the PSESD Board of Directors. Board members are elected to a four-year term, unless filling in for an unexpired term. This is a volunteer (unpaid) position, although travel expenses and child care costs for Board meetings are reimbursed.
Declarations of candidacy and optional candidate statements must be filed with the Washington State Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) between September 1 and September 16. Voting, by mail-in ballot, will take place October 1 through 16.
On August 25, declaration of candidacy and candidate statement forms will be available through the OSPI Administrative Resources website or by mail at:
