Distance Learning System Supports

The “Why”

Distance learning is more than just “moving schools online”. Since April 2020 the AESD has partnered with international education consultant Jeff Utecht through ReImagine WA Ed to support statewide professional learning series that provides educators and administrators with structures, best practices, and support for making the move to distance learning – together! Sessions are available for educators and administrators wherever you are in your distance learning journey.

Shifting Schools: Leveraging Hybrid Learning

We’re shaping the path ahead! Wherever you are on your distance learning journey, we are here to support you. Washington’s 9 ESDs are proud to partner again with Jeff Utecht (founder of Shifting Schools). We’re offering educators Shifting Schools: Leveraging Hybrid Learning to help make the transition from distance learning to hybrid learning.

Register now!

Leveraging Hybrid Learning includes eight (8) sessions that delve deeper into teaching in a learning cycle. These sessions are open to all educators K-12. Starting the week of December 7, 2020 and concluding the week of February 15, 2021 the sessions will include:

Session 1: Leveraging Learning with Cycles – December 8-11, 2020

Learners need consistency and routines. A Learning Cycle provides a clear pathway for collaboration, reflection, and independent learning. This session will focus on how we can break down the learning cycle and disambiguate the learning flow in a hybrid learning environment.

Session 3: Leveraging Community for Collaboration (Study Bubbles) – January 11-15, 2021

No matter where learners are learning from, they still need (and deserve) to belong to your school community. Creating a culture of collaboration is critically important in a hybrid learning model. Having students understand how to work collaboratively in remote groups is an essential skill needed for the future workforce.

Session 5: Collaboration – An Essential Part of Learning – January 25-29, 2021

Ready to rethink what it takes to cultivate highly effective student teams? We’ll share collaboration structures that work regardless of where you have students collaborating from. Our strategies and toolkit is also useful for teacher teams!

Session 7: Authentic Assessments for Authentic Learning – February 8-12, 2021

What might it mean to rethink assessments within a learning cycle? In this session we will look at designing assessments that encourage students to see themselves as life long learners, capable of making contributions to their community.

Session 2: Foundational Network Literacies in Today’s Learning Environment (and tomorrow’s!) – December 14-18, 2020

There are key foundational literacies that will continue to shape what it means to be a learner today. When students gain proficiency to learn in a connected world they gain access to so called ‘future-ready’ capacities. Network literacies underpin every part of the learning cycle, and they are the momentum that will propel learning forward.

Session 4: Authentic Learning for an Authentic Audience – January 18-22, 2021

Engagement is sparked when students can envision the real world implications for their learning. In this session we look at resources available to teachers and students to engage in authentic creative work that adds value to the world around us.

Session 6: Engagement – Student Agency in At-Home Learning – February 1-5, 2021

In this session we delve deeper into how systems and pathways can be tweaked to spark deep engagement. We will look at developing a bespoke toolkit of strategies for you to employ right away!

Session 8: Reflection as a Tool for Growth – February 15-19, 2021

Self-awareness underpins our ability to grow as learners. This module will share our favorite reflection strategies that you can use in any learning environment.

Register now for Leveraging Hybrid Learning and attend all 8 sessions for just $300! Following registration, your cohort assignment, including the finalized session date, times, and links will be emailed to you by Monday, December 7th.
